The Oscars 2025: AGITO Goes for Gold

Not every live event is a high-speed operation. The Oscars are the opposite: a meticulously choreographed evening where everything – right down to how a winner exits the stage – is carefully planned. There’s little room for big equipment cluttering the wings or clunky setups disrupting the flow.

Which is exactly why AGITO Sports with MagTrax was brought in.

“One of the most important shots at the Oscars is when a winner walks off stage,” explains Brian Shield, camera operator at Railcam, which specialises in using AGITO systems for live event production. “It’s that first private moment after they’ve given their speech – the relief, the joy, the reality sinking in. It’s something directors love to capture, but traditionally, it’s been done with a massive crane parked in the wings.”

The problem, however, is that cranes are unwieldy; they take up space and must be moved with precision. “A few years ago, the tech manager realised they needed something more flexible,” Shield recalls. “That’s when they switched to AGITO. It’s smaller, more discreet and can move effortlessly to keep up with the pace of the show.”

Using the AGITO system, RailCam was able to capture these moments with a fluid, eye-level perspective – tracking winners as they walked off stage without obstructing the carefully designed stage layout. Unlike traditional setups, AGITO could reposition itself instantly, ensuring nothing was missed while staying out of sight when it wasn’t needed.
